A story about Beis Haleivy.
When he became a Rov in Slutsk and came into conflict with some of the wealthy members of the community ( a good description of this episode can be found in Shulamit Meiselman , The Soloveitchik Heritage: A Daughter's Memoir) , they often verbally jostled with him. Once, one of these men asked the Beis Haleivy, " Rebbe, I understand why the people need to respect the Rov. After all he had toiled and studied in Torah and deserves honor for that. But why do people respect the Rebbetzin. All she did was marry the Rabbi?"
He responded, "When you are wrong, I tell you. But who tells the Rabbi when he is wrong? Only the Rebbetzin!".
