Note that the same name of G-d used to denote Divine Transcendence, the tetragrammaton as understood as a contraction of Yihyeh-Hoveh-Hayah (Will Be, Is and Was), is also the name of G-d used to connote Divine Mercy.

If you have a parent watching a single child, the child gets full attention. If you put a teacher in front of a playgroup of 5 kids, each child gets some attention. Special ed also has class sized at teacher ratios of 3:1 or 4:1. Mainsteam grade school children can handle classes of 20 or so. But when class size outstrips the amount of attention the teacher can give, chaos follows.

Only an infinite Parent could give individual attention to an infinite number of things.

G-d's Immanence is therefore not in dialectic tension to G-d's Transcendence, but a measure of it.

(To put it another way: We usually think of G-d being infinite in terms of magnitude. But that could be satisfied with a mere aleph-null. A G-d who is infinite in a higher order, C or greater, has "room" for every point on the line...)

As for developing both within myself... I argued that this is a case where the split between intellect and middos is advantageous. Knowing about G-d is an intellectual exercise. Knowing G-d, the way I know the people who are important to me, is an emotional one. They can be developed in parallel.

See this blog entry of mine for a short survey of how various approaches deal with this issue (includes thumbnails of the Rambam, the Tanya, Breslov, Brisk, and -- not to compare myself to them, but... what I see for AishDas).
